Dick Thomas Honoured For 50 Years of Service in Basketball.

Basin Wildcat foundation Member Dick Thomas has been honoured by Basketball Victoria for 50 Years of Service in Basketball

Dick Thomas started his basketball journey in 1958 in Hamilton.

In 1975, he was in the first Basin mens team which would soon become the Basin Wildcats.  After many years service as a coach and administrator at the Basin, he became a life Member of the club.

After founding The Basin, Dick then played a key role in entering Kilsyth into the SEABL (formerly SEBL), with the Cobras winning a National Championship just two years later (1985). He was a member of the Men’s team as either a Team Manager or Assistant Coach up until 1997. During this time, Dick continued to coach at the Junior Domestic level, whilst also coaching several Junior Cobras teams.

Dick was appointed as General Manager of Kilsyth Basketball in 1999, a position he held until 2007. He then took a position on the Eastern Sports Development Board from 2007 until early 2016. Dick was a key member in the planning of Kilsyth Basketball’s Hall of Fame and continues to serve on its planning committee.

While Dick has seemingly done it all during his time at Kilsyth, his kind hearted nature stands tall above his long list of accomplishments. Congratulations on your award, Dick, and thank you for your service.
